high beams fine and no low beams-Ford Escape 2012

Fixed issue by cleaning a corroded contact on the turn signal switch (and saved $93.00 for a new left turn signal - also called a "Multi-Function Switch).

Steps:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.
2. Put the steering wheel column into the lowest position. Release is under the steering column.
3. Remove the upper steering wheel column cover by pinching the cover and each side. No tool required.

4. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the lower steering wheel column cover. Hard to see and get to. I used a flashlight to locate and loosen the two Phillips head screws. Remove lower steering column cover
You now have access to two gold-colored screws that keep the left turn signal in place.
5. Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove both of the gold colored screws. Gently lift the left turn signal up and out. A wiring harness is still connected to the left turn signal assembly.
6. Use a screwdriver to disconnect the left turn signal assembly from the wiring harness - held on by a single tab.
You now can see if a contact(s) are corroded (or not). Mine had one corroded contact. I cleaned it with common sandpaper. I also cleaned the wiring harness connector, which also looked corroded.

7. Reconnect the left turn signal to the wiring harness (reversing step 6).
At this point, I re-connected the battery and checked to see if the lights worked - checking both low and high beams. Both worked!! The low beams previously had not worked, only the high beams.
8. Reconnect everything by reversing steps 6-1. You should be good to go - if a corroded terminal was the issue.
